The turning point - Jaws Reviews

In my eyes, Jaws would have to be the turning point in film making with its amazing visuals, solid acting and its realism which actually affected people's lives. I know so many people say this but it's only because it's true: this movie created fears about swimming at the beach. I don't think many people, after seeing this movie, would take their chances ever again at a beach that may have deadly sharks in it. It was a masterpiece all-round.

Jaws, the instant blockbuster and why - Jaws Reviews

This classic directed by Spielburg is underated by the critics. Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss, Lorriane Gary, and Murray Hamilton helped make it one of the top grossing films of our time. The music made people scared to death because they all knew what was happening next. Audiences even stayed at the end and watched all the credits. I applaud the actors for putting so much effort into the movie and showing patience when things didn't quite work out. All that said, I think that you would agree that Jaws is one of the greatest films of our time.

Wow! - Jaws Reviews

Best shark movie ever!: jaws - Jaws Reviews

Its was great!Best shark movie ever made. The best parts of the movie are all the deaths and of course the music!A lot of people are terrified of the movie, but you all have to remember that IT'S A FAKE SHARK! Ya idiots! why in the hell are you afraid of that? My God... sigh. But anywho... great acting, great story, great direction, great visuals. AWESOME MOVIE! Thank you and good night!

Spielberg's best - Jaws Reviews

There's something to be said for the last time Spielberg killed off a child character. I know the guy just grew a sweet spot in his old age but it really has an effect on predictability in every film since. And what is with the WWII obsession?!? It's one thing to take an interest but once again, even in a shark movie one of the best scenes is the lamplit character piece where Shaw's character tells the tale of the Indianapolis sinking in shark infested waters after delivering "the Bomb". Is like the shooting start thing? Anyway...if you haven't seen this film for any reason check it out...it's Spielberg when he was cool.

Simple but perfict - Jaws Reviews

This is the kind of movie that you either hate or love. some may say its to slow others may say that its stupid. I am not one of those people. I think this film is perfict, mostly because it tells a story from begining to end, it thrills you and even makes you laugh there are no hole in the story, and it resolves all the broblems the movie starts with. For the eara this film was made it has definitely lasted the time. I love this film mostly because it show you the simple but brilliant story of Man agenst Beast.

D - for dumb humor - Wedding Crashers Reviews

I am simply let down everytime I get talked into going to an american made comedy. Who's rating these comedy movies... post pubescent boys and girls? I guess if you think bare breasted women, stupid cliches' and just plain dumb writing is funny... more power to you. I'll stick to the foreign comedies, until Hollywood can produce something more funny than this type of garbage.

Quint is the man! - Jaws Reviews

this movie is really cool, and even though the special effects aren't as good as in new movies it's still a fun ride.the character of "quint" is played extremely well.the fact that this movie scared so many people when it first came out, makes it that much better.

Best speilberg film - Jaws Reviews

I'm a huge Speilberg fan and I love sharks so I thought this was my movie and I was right. The visuals, acting by Robert Shaw and the shark he didn't scare me but he sure did for some people. This movie started summer blockbusters so you had to give some credit to it. This made me notice Speilberg and his other films so I thank Jaws for best shark movie and best Speilberg film.

J a w s - Jaws Reviews

This is what a shark move should be like, and the story has a lot of potential and it's a geat adventure/ horror/ thriller film. Steven Speilburge was born to dirct, and this is one of his best work, Roy Schider, Robert Shaw, and Richard Dreyfuss were excilent on this film, and this is the only Jaws film where the shark actually look real. Jaws followed two crappy sequels, and one worthy one. Jaws is the kind of film that keeps you out of the water and never go back in. Jaws also has that score where the shark comes and wanting to kill. Jaws should have gotten more than just three oscars. I couldn't see why Spielburge didn't get an oscar nomination, and Spielburge does owe a lot to this movie, it lauched his job as a director. Jaws is one of cinema's best film, and will forever remain on of the best films in hollywood.

Jaws the movie vs jaws the book - Jaws Reviews

THe Movie was good but the book was better. The character were accurate in the movie form the book. In the book MAtt Hooper knew Ellen Brody when they were young. Also Hooper dies in the book and chief brody is the only one left.

This is by far the greatest man vs. nature film - Jaws Reviews

Steven Spielberg has created a masterpiece of suspense here. The greatest man vs. nature film ever made. It's even more than that, it is a great character study. Sure it has changed a little with the times; but this film still is the king of its domain. Those of the younger generation who criticize this film don't understand it's magic. They look at it's visual effects, which are fantastic for there time, and base it also on the story. Okay the story may be a little far fetched; but so is 75 percent of most films even today. Actually the film that made me love films as a child. Special to me in all ways, and I will always defend that. A must own for all film collections.

Man vs. beast - Jaws Reviews

I love everything about Jaws, except for the sequels (which I hate) I love the story, the cast, the shark, the music, I even want to go live in Amity. For my money, it just doesn't get better than Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw going after a 25-foot eating machine. Spielberg made the perfect summer flick with this one, it is for this reason and many others that I consider Jaws to be the very tops of my personal top 10 list. I can seriously watch this movie on a daily basis. In a related review; I think Jaws 3-D is quite possibly the worst movie ever made.

Just when you thought it was safe.... - Jaws Reviews

Wow I must have been about 12 the first time I saw this movie and it left quite an impression. We went to the beach that summer and I did not take one single step into the water. That's the kind of effect Jaws had on alot of people. Someone was bound to make a shark movie eventually, and yes it would have had the same effect on people this one did. The thing with Jaws is that it's right in your face and doesn't hold back. It's balls to the wall shark attacks and it is terrifying. The mechanical shark they used for the movie never seemed to work right so Spielberg had to edit the movie alot and use the Shark point of view angles more then he would have liked, but it ended up working perfectly. He'll tell you to this day that he thought the movie was going to bomb. I'm not going to go any deeper into the plot because it's basically great white shark terrorizes ocean front town, and the sherrif, a marine biologist, and a legendary local shark hunter set out to catch it. I think they need a bigger boat.

Shark not as scary! - Jaws Reviews

Good Movie. I rudened the movie for my self by reading all the books I could on sharks before the movie reach my town. But it was still a good movie

A classic - Jaws Reviews

Spawning three sequels and countless inferior imitations, Jaws became the father of the modern-day summer blockbuster by combining the right elements of horror, adventure, and a little humor. Horror dominates the first half of the film, as a 25-foot Great White Shark terrorizes Amity Island, a small New England resort. Director Steven Spielberg creates the perfect amount of suspense by showing us the shark's P.O.V. as he chomps on a female skinny dipper, a little boy, and two fishermen. The second half of the movie focuses on the party assigned to hunt down the beast, led by Amity Police Cheif Brody (Roy Scheider), who happens to be afraid of water and boats. He takes along rich-boy shark expert Matt Hooper(Richard Dreyfuss), and hard-edged and eccentric shark hunter Quint (played brilliantly by the late Robert Shaw). The three stars have a brilliant chemistry aboard the Orca, Quint's reliable but undersized vessel. Jaws proves that you don't need CG wizardry to create an engaging story and one bad-ass villain

Almost perfect in 1975 - almost ruined in 2000 - Jaws Reviews

"Jaws" is one of those movies that never gets old. The intense character conflict between a regular chief of police, a young college scientist, and a working class, seafairing, ex-WWII vet turn shark killer is perfect. The dialogue in this flick keeps you smiling and the story keeps you watching from the shocking opening to the sweat inducing climax. The only problem I had with this movie was a single 3 second visual shot of the shark at the end of the movie that should have been cut out because it looked so fake. Other than that, I can find no flaws. John Williams musical score adds most of the tension. Wonderfully written, Williams shows you how music itself is a language all of it's own that communicates in ways that words never can. In 2000, a 25-year aniversary edition was made available on DVD. I bought it, watched it, and then went straight back to the video store and demanded my money back. With today's digital audio technology, production companies continue to try to improve the audio of older films like "Jaws" only to make things worse. Throughout the entire film, new sounds were inserted that weren't there before. During the climax of the film, when the shark rams thru the window of the boat while it's sinking, a newer sound of the glass shattering was inserted. The new sound was digitally stereophonic which of course is superior to the original mono. However, the original sound of the glass shattering was more menacing than the new sound that was used. The original shatter sounded like a large glass window shattering with tons of water pooring in behind it. The new shatter sounded like somebody hit a hammer thru a china-plate. I have no problem with new audio being dubbed over an older film...just so long as it's not pathetically obvious that it's a new sound dubbed over an older film. This is why many DVDs are now offering people a choice between the original audio and the newer digital audio. But unfortunately, the DVD 2000 edition doesn't give you this choice. I'll be waiting for a newer edition that has the original audio before buying Jaws again.

Jaws and all - Jaws Reviews

There is a creature alive today, who has survived millions of years of evolution. Without change, without passion, and without logic. It lives to kill. A mindless eating machine. It will attack and devour anything. It is as so that God has created the devil..... and gave him JAWS. It was seen by 60 million people. This movies gives me chills just thinking of it. Of an Best Original Score at the Oscars. Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, and Richard Dreyfuss star in JAWS. It was nominated for 21 awards and won 9. It was up for Best Picture at the 1975 Acadamy Awards. So see it before you go swimming......

Jaws - Jaws Reviews

Jaws is one of those movies that will tap your fear, and to never swim in the ocean again! Steven's first blockbuster film that became such a huge hit. The movie was a little different from the book, because Matt Hopper was supposed to die. And the shark died of wounds. But, who cares Jaws rocks! No shark movie ever would beat Jaws. $ 260,000,000 is a lot! I loved Jaws. Jaws 2 I would reccomend, but Jaws 3 and 4?! Do not watch. A great white shark arrives at a place called amity. The shark starts to attack people underwater. Now a fisheman named Quint, a police named Martin Brody, and Matt Hopper a scientist have to go out to destroy the monster. This movie will be a little intense to little kids, and this movie pretty gorey. The best movie for 1975.

Brilliant start to a brilliant career - Jaws Reviews

Not Spielberg's first, but close to it. This is easily one of the most re-watchable films ever made, simply because the tension doesn't go away. The beauty of the film is in the combination of great characters and dramatic moments so great you can cut the fear with a knife. John William's score is the definitive topper, and thus the film's longevity over decades. After watching this, go get your swim trunks on and head down to the ocean. Maybe you'd rather try the pool instead....

Once bitten... - Jaws Reviews

...by Jaws. While a well-balanced cast lends credibilty to a well-balanced tale, the late Robert Shaw is outstanding as Quint. Acting as Shaw's foil, Richard Dreyfuss' role adds an important ambivalence to the movie, and Roy Scheider is well cast as Chief Brody. The only disappointment in the cast is Mrs Brody, whose presence tends to remind one of a sleazy, fly-blown drunken harlot.

Instant classic!! - Jaws Reviews

Jaws was a great movie, it was the first and best shark movie ever made, compared to other shark movie that even dare to compare to this one, I say it deserves an oscar! Anyway about the movie, great story, very simple, not one you half to waste the whole movie trying to explain, the acting is the best part of the movie, great performances from Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss and especially Robert Shaw. The movie takes place at a small town of the New York islands, being the middle of the summer and the 4th of July coming up, tourism gets pretty heavy, with the arrogant and careless Mayor in the middle of it all, then you have the intellegent, cautious, and caring chief of police Brody (Scheider) living happily with his wife and too children, then the fun really begins, as the tourism grows, a great white shark is attracted from the ocean the coast, where it starts attacking and killing people one by one, a teenage girl, a young boy, a fisherman, a young man, a captain and the chief's oldest son, who wasn't killed but was put in shock, after the first death, a shark expert (Dreyfuss) comes to investigate the situation, I know I'm going on about the story to whole time, so i'll try and move on the something else, after skipping about half an hour of the movie, the chief, the shark expert, and a captain (Shaw) who volunteered to kill the shark for about 10 grand, go out onto the ocean to hunt down and kill the shark, anyway that's enough explaining the story, Jaws was a great movie, it has alot of suspense, great suspenseful music, excellent cast, and a story that brings the movie to life, overall it's an instant classic. It does have three sequels, but none of them are really worth watching, part 2 is ok, part 3 is crap, and part 4 is down right awful. But if you want to see a great Speilberg movie and a great shark movie, check out Jaws!

Another one line review. - Jaws Reviews

How cool it must be to be Steven Spielberg, he made this movie so he could see a hot chick go skinny dipping but she wasn't up to it so he re-wrote the entire movie and kills her in the first few minutes, the genius doesn't end there and the shark eats people one after the other like popcorn shrimp then throws down with Roy Schiedner and he goes mano a mano with the shark in a fisticuff angling adventure, who will win the shark or Roy, you got to see it to believe it but I'll tell you what: one of them dies!!!

Masterpiece - Jaws Reviews

A well acted great movie for many ages 10/10 stars.i say that it is an excellent movie. i would really recommend it for everyonejust a great movie to watch when there are killer sharks involves in all of the sequals. WOW! such a great movie.

A true horror classic! two thumbs up - Jaws Reviews

Jaws is a story about a man eating shark, a shark that eats tears and completly devours teens who are skinny dipping. However don't be misleaded by the the slasher title "Jaws." the film is as haunting as it is well acted. Roy Schieder, Richard Dreyfuss, (who is so perfect in his drug years) and of course the unforgetable Robert Shaw who is literally unstopable in his portrayal of a shark hunter. Steven Speilburg's direction of the film is unbelieveable. he masterfully crafts every intense line and grotesque chomp that the shark takes. The underwater shots were an eerie add in that were very intense and suspenseful in the opening sequence A note to parents if the film were made today it would recieve a PG-13 rating. The film shows gallons of blood ozzing from the water after the attacks this film. It is not meant for youngsters and I would recommend every parent to tell there young children that they are going to be watching a scary movie and a tamer gorier one at that. All in all "Jaws" is a classic swiftly and quickly moving from each scene to next creating senses of disturbence and fright. I give this film 4 stars and a ticket home under the covers away from the beach.

An instant classic in the world of horror! - Jaws Reviews

I saw Jaws five days before I went to the beach. I bet you can guess the rest. Luckily for me it was a bay and didn't get very deep off shore. I went out into about three feet water and thought I was safe. Then I remembered Roy Scheider's lines: "Is it true that most shark attacks happen in three feet of water?" I splashed back to shore in a hartbeat! (Actually about a thousand!) Great acting! Great story! Great effects! (for that time!) Great directing! Great movie!!!

Don't listen to reviews about sharks - Jaws Reviews

Jaws is great. It is my favorite movie of all time. It has fantastic acting, outstanding story and is entertaining. Jaws is a cinematic masterpeice no matter what anyody says. And despite what some may tell you about sharks, the storyline of a rouge great white attacking humans is totally plausible. As a matter of fact the whole concept was based upon the 1916 New Jersy shark attacks in which five people were killed, two of them in a river. The whole story was just Peter Benchleys modern interpretation of the incedent. Also to say that sharks don't attack people is a lie, the people that give it bad reviews on that basis are wrong to judge that way. Yes statistically it won't happen, but it has happened and may happen again. And to say that the movie promotes the killing of sharks also is false because in essence it turns people on to the ideas of sharks and maybe even promotes learning. After all, I love to learn about sharks and this is due mostly to Jaws. Also to go and say that Jaws is a bad movie based upon one thing or another is to go and say that Gili is a classic sotry which everybody loves. If you're going bash a shark movie for promoting the killing and fear of sharks attack one without any truth and had bad acting and storlines, like Deep Blue Sea. As for the visuals of the movie, yes, the shark can look fake. However if compared to claymation and CGI, the shark is a hell of a lot more real. (Seriosly, CGI still looks fake no matter how detailed it is) Even still, the movie is less about the shark and the attacks and more about the three main characters, Cheif Brody, Matt Hooper, and Quint stuck on a boat. That is the meat of the story, and the movie. The shark is there just to heighten their beleaveabilty of the acting, which was awesome to begin with.

Aaaaahhhhhhh - Jaws Reviews

Somebody help me. Ever since I saw this movie I have been scared to go near the water. I am scared to swim in the ocean, I am scared to swim in pools, I cant even go to the *****ing bathroom anymore. My fears may seem fatuous but... hey what ***** is that sthe ahhhhhhhh help m

Jaws - Jaws Reviews

"I think you need a bigger boat". I love that quote. This is one of my favorite movies! Amity is terrorfiyed by a Great White Shak who attacks people. Now a fisherman, a police, and a scientist go out to the sea and hunts down the shark. This movie is based on a novel. Every thing was great in this movie. Awesome visuals for 1975.

This was not a boating accident!!! - Jaws Reviews

I just quoted my favorite line from the movie Jaws. Is this the scariest movie ever made? No. Is this intended to be the scariest movie ever made? No. Filmaker Steven Spielberg and the producers David Brown and Richard D. Zanuck tried to make a scary film, that's all. They weren't trying to make a classic, but guess what, they did. This is truthfully ONE of the most scary pyschological horror films ever made. It's still hard to believe that one movie in the summer of 1975 made people stay out of the ocean for that one summer. That's when you know that for one, your movie is one of the biggest hits of all time (and in 1975 it was) and two, that the movie has a lasting affect on people, and that's when you really know that you have succeeded. This movie was wonderfully acted, directed, and the fake shark they used in this movie looks real. However, the biggest thing that makes this movie what it is, is John Williams's musical that still lives on to this day. His Jaws theme may not be too complicated, but it truly is frightning. Overall, this is a classic movie, that will go on and continue to scare people for years to come.

Shark!!!!!!!!!!! - Jaws Reviews

This movie scared me so bad, I was afraid to go in a pool for weeks!!! Steven did such an awesome job directing this and made it into a terrifying film. The acting was wonderful and omg I can't believe how scary the music was!!! :-) an awesome movie, but don't watch it before you go on vacation to the beach.

Dummies guide to: jaws - Jaws Reviews

I have to say , some people really take a movie and try to transform it into something that it is not. I'll give you one example..... I've read reviews on how this movie "Jaws" doesnt portray actual "shark" behavior or lifestyle. C'mon give me a break people....this movie is NOT a documentary...it is not intended to educate the public on shark behavior. It's a movie about a terrifying , real life predator (unlike The TERMINATOR, which by the way is a great film too) who finds its way into cool waters and attacks anything in it's path. The movie does include real life shark footage (see special features on DVD) but it isnt a Discovery channel program. There is more to the movie than just the shark. There is also a moral dilemma between the greedy town politicians and how they should go about alerting the public that there is a man-eating, flesh ripping creature in their waters. Watch Jaws because you find the concept of having a man-eating , sea-dwelling , unforgiving, relentless creature swimming at your nearest beach waiting for the chance to dismember you , frightening...!! Just the fact that its possible that a shark can find itself in unfamiliar waters is scary enough for me. I recommend JAWS, I recommend you read the book ( I find it more terrifying than the movie) I recommend this movie because being eaten alive by something so merciless that no matter how much you plead or scream for your life.....just will not stop--- is just plain scary.
